The EU Directive on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications [2005/36/EC] aids the transferability of professional qualifications between EU Member States, EEA countries and Switzerland. Under the Directive, holders of qualifications from one Member State may apply for recognition to an equivalent body in another Member State.

The Irish Tax Institute is the competent authority for tax advisers in Ireland.

If you

  • hold a taxation qualification from another EU Member State, an EEA territory or Switzerland which is recognised under the Directive and
  • you wish to have that qualification assessed for equivalency in the Irish context

Equally, holders of the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification, which is recognised under Article 11(d) of the Directive, may apply to similar bodies to the Irish Tax Institute for recognition under the Directive.
